through the day. we start chilly. back to the upper 60s. there will be a couple showers around. even though you won't see the raindrops, there may abcouple of showers here and there. this afternoon a couple of showers, even a threat of thunder as we get back into the middle 70s with partly to mostly cloudy skies. winds turning to the southwest. look to the north and west here. we've got some showers, leftier ones from sharpsburg coming out of the martinsburg approaching north of charles town. this will be into harpers ferry. myersville, it's headed your way in the next half-hour. it's chilly. 49 hagerstown. 50 gaithersburg and baltimore. andrews and la plata also 50 with 48 across the bay. we're at 52 going back to the 70s later on. beverly farmer, 6:00 a.m., how is it looking? >> a little more volume out there. some folks are headed to work. they're not watching their brackets from home. eastbound lanes of 66 we have the building volume as you make your way from manassas. the pace in i ven that getting past nutley street is pretty

good. no real problems 95 north. just the building volume getting into woodbridge heading to springfield as you merge toward the beltway. 395 has been a good pace through landmark, past the pentagon and to the 14th street bridge. the outer loop of the beltway just building volume west of new hampshire avenue off and on past university boulevard and over to georgia avenue. one accident northbound if you're traveling out of burke near route 4 and 408 in waysons corner. initially it was the northbound right side of the roadway that was blocked with that. our next check of time saver traffic comes up at 6:10. new this morning. the boy taken from a prince george's county school has been found. he's alive and well. >> he was found on the other side of the country in reno, nevada. delia goncalves is live outside prince george's county police headquarters really with a bizarre story. delia? >> reporter: absolutely, mike. based on the amber alert that police issued last night, it appears that this mother had 11

hours to travel with her son completely under the radar. the amber alert for 9-year-old wilbert was issued around 7:00 p.m. thursday. we're told his mother checked him out of dodge park elementary school just before 8:00 a.m. she does not have custody of the 9-year-old wilbert but told school leaders he had a doctor's appointment. police recovered a car at 1:00 a.m. and then at 3:00 a.m. this morning we're told the mother was arrested trying to board an airplane with her son in reno, nevada. school officials we're told are now reviewing their policy and wilbert's school records to figure out if they had a court order preventing the mother from picking him up. police say the boy is safe and he is on his way back home to his family here in maryland. back to you. >> i'lli'll take it. thank you, delia.

the chairman of the d.c. city council is the latest member to get a subpoena. it is part of a federal probe into a very prominent fund- raiser in the city. a spokeswoman for kwame brown said he received a subpoena thursday. she adds he will fully comply with the investigation. three other council members have been subpoenaed already. the probe is looking into donations from businessman jeffrey thompson and whether or not those violated campaign rules. the mother of het remember mcguire -- heather mcguire said the system failed her daughter. mcguire feared for her life and her mother says her daughter never knew philip gel bertie had been released from jail over the weekend. >> no one as far as i know, no one informed her that he was let out again out of jail. and there was no one there for her because i kept calling to find out if anyone had been in contact with her because

usually victims of domestic abuse, when they release the person who's their abuser, they receive some notification. as far as i know, she didn't. >> the montgomery county sheriff's department says the judge in the case didn't know about gilberti's lengthy violent history because of a computer glitch. gel bertie later killed himself before he could be arrested. there will be happy homecomings in four places across maryland later this morning. more than 200 soldiers are back after a year overseas and they'll return to their respective rendezvous places to meet their families. we told you about the army national guard when they deployed last march. they were stationed in egypt. they panned observe vision posts and the homecoming thankfully for them will begin this morning at 9:00. coming up on 6:05, jessica doyle is watching your money. >> she's protecting us from a scam when it comes to our phones. what's that all about?

>> the con artists every single year they seem to get a little more smarter and tech savvy. here what's happening now. they're stepping up phone calling scams that go after people that bank online which of course is most of us these days. our partners at "u.s.a. today" report that the cyberthieves call you on your cell phone pretending to be from a major bank. then they try to trick you into giving away your account information. the caller screen may even look completely legitimate. it may say it's coming from your bank. one way to avoid the scam if you get a call, ask the caller to verify your information, not the other way around or hang up and then call your bank back directly at the phone number you have on the back of your own banking card. coming this month to reagan national airport, a new way to zip through security lines but it's going to cost you. the transportation security administration is rolling out expedited screening at big airports. the program called precheck costs travelers $100 to enroll and for that you get express

lane -- rather special express lanes. travelers are background checked so they can keep their shoes, belts, jook cets on. -- jackets on and walk through metal detectors rather than a full body scan. american airlines and delta are currently working on this program and it will be available at reagan for delta in the next few weeks. here's a daily deal to be on the lookout for. amazon.com plans to sell $100 gift cards to its site for $5 starting on tuesday. it will be offered through its daily deal site amazon local. the offer is intended to boost customer interest in the service. why are we telling you about this ahead of time? the last time a similar amazon gift card deal was offered, living social sold nearly 1.4 million of them, 80 per second. >> so a hundred bucks for five bucks. >> no $10 for $5. >> even still. it sold like hot cakes. it was one of the best deals of

the soldier accused of killing 16 civilians in afghanistan is expected to face a trial here in the united states and now he has a lawyer. >> that's one of the stories making news now at 6:11. attorney john henry brown says his client did not want to go to afghanistan. the 38-year-old soldier has served three tours of duty in iraq and lost part of his foot during one tour and he was told he would not have to serve again. they'll spend the weekend cleaning up after at least one confirmed tornado hit southeastern michigan. there were several other spotted about a hundred homes were damaged in this. no reports of any major injuries. record high temperatures didn't stop virginia tech from howeing snow jam. the event thursday is part of a nationwide tour. the snow was imported to campus from nearby -- [ inaudible ] we're your hosts once again for the suntrust rock 'n' roll marathon and national half marathon as well. that means there will be a lot

of sore runners this weekend. so what is the best way to recover? joining us live from the health and fitness expo at the d.c. armory is ashley writtenhouse with refuel. i have a feeling you have something you're going to show us about that. >> i do, mike. thank you so much for having us on this morning. a lot of athletes have been spending months preparing for tomorrow's marathon and half marathon, but what is often neglected is their most workout recovery. while chocolate milk has been proven to be one of the best to have after endurance exercise. >> you're saying beer might not be the best way to go. >> what we say is grab a water, grab a chocolate milk and then maybe you can indulge in a beer. what's great about it is you do have that two-hour recovery window so you don't have to grab it at the finish line.

lime green. it's sort of green. she's picking out the green headbands and everything else. >> going all the way. >> as much as we can. but most of her headbands are in the pink family. >> we understand why. >> let's talk about the bus stop forecast. it's chilly out there. yesterday we were in the low to mid-80s. a lot of mid-80s. average high 56 this morning. we're a lot cooler. we've got upper 40s in a few spots. mostly in the low to mid-50s, patchy fog, and even a couple of showers. the showers are north and west. sunrise at 7:17. looking at the sunset at 7:17. even though the equal knox isn't till nurse, -- isn't till next week, the atmosphere bends a little bit. if we didn't have an atmosphere in -- today is our 12 hours of daylight. 57 by #k. 69 by -- by 8:00. 69 by noon. the warmer air will be brought back toward us. it's down toward richmond right

now. this afternoon we could see a few showers this morning but we may see a shower or thunderstorm, 75 at 4:00. that will be about the high today with 71, still with a shower or storm possible at 8:00 p.m. looking at the radar, we've got some showers out there now. you really see them coming through parts of the northern shenandoah valley. south of hagerstown passing the martinsburg area now. i zoomed into this area just to the west of myersville. we're seeing the heavier showers, the yellow showing up west of middletown as well. this is passing hagerstown with a couple of sprinkles out there. charles town to harpers ferry, that's a little bit wet. the fog, a little bit of a problem. leonardtown, easton down to a mile. reports in prince frederick to three-quarters after mile. farther west you go not nearly as much fog but some advice i can'ting down to -- visibilitying down to three in the shenandoah valley. 59 degrees is the warm air we'll left back later on.

welcome back. it's a lot cooler right now. we've got a couple of showers out to the west through the shenandoah valley. here's a look at your day planner today. expect some showers around. cool this morning as a front has slipped through. we should be back in the upper 60s by noon. by 3:00 mid-70s. those will be the highs for the day. chance for all come of thunderstorms mixed with showers this afternoon. march madness is upon us and the georgetown hoyas are hoping to avoid the same fate

welcome back. 6:29. howard bernstein here with your weather first. it's a lot cooler out here. kind of chilly. it's damp. we have a northeast wind and temps in the upper 40s and low 50s. our day planner also calls for the threat of a few showers at times this morning and even this afternoon can't rule out we'll get some thunder to mix in. we should get back in the warmer air after the noon hour into the mid-70s for highs after starting out kind of chilly this morning. we're watching the radar this morning. we'll have showers -- there are showers up in pennsylvania and a line of showers east of hagerstown approaching frederick, maryland down through harpers ferry. it breaks up south of berriesville, back to front royal and luray. all of this is moving toward the east. a light area of broken showers this morning. the cooler temps, you see them now, 49 hagerstown. easton is 48. we're 52. richmond, by the way, still about 59 degrees.

join them for a price. that is the story you'll only see on cbs this morning ahead at 7:00. >> charlie, very interesting. new this morning, a missing boy from prince george's county is found hours after an amber alert goes out and he's found on the other side of the country. delia goncalves is live at prince george's county police headquarters with the latest. good morning, delia. good morning, andrea and mike. police issued that amber alert after wilbert garcia was abducted from his school in landover. they canceled the alert early this morning after he was found in an airport in reno, nevada. we're told 36-year-old sylvia garcia, the boy's mother who does not have custody checked her son out of dodge park elementary school just before 8:00 a.m. thursday. the amber alert went out around 7:00 p.m. in that time the mother apparently ditched her car and

traveled to nevada with wilbert. she was arrested at 3:00 this morning. wilbert is safe and on his way home to maryland to the family who is here. school leaders say they are reviewing wilbert's school records to see if they had a court order preventing the mom from leaving the school with wilbert. she did tell them he had a doctor's appointment. they are now reviewing their policy to see if anything did not go according to plan and according to their policy. the school pio tells me this morning on the phone, quote, we are thankful for the public's help in ensuring wilbert's safe return. a happy ending to a very scary situation for the family of that 9-year-old boy here in prince george's county. back to you, andrea, mike. >> we're definitely glad of that happy ending. delia goncalves live in palmer park, maryland. police in montgomery county want to know why a tow truck crossed the center line and collided with a car. two people died in that car.

the crash happened along piney branch road near new hampshire avenue. the driver of the tow truck was hospitalized. he survived the accident. no word yet if he'll face any charges. two former metro workers are expected to plead guilty today to charges they stole hundreds of thousands of dollars. horace mcdade and john haley were arrested in january and prosecutors say they took coins from metro fare machines and they would routinely take $500 in coins to convenience stores and buy lottery tickets with them. prince george's county executive rushern baker is heading to annapolis today. he's going to lobby state lawmakers to approve his plan for a billion dollar casino and entertainment facility at national harbor. if given the okay by state lawmakers, the plan would still have to be approved by a vote of reverend dup. thursday labor leaders voiced their support for the casino. they say it would create much needed jobs in the county.

executive baker predicts the casino complex would add 5,000 jobs. 6:36. jessica doyle watching your money. >> more concerns about privacy when it comes to google. >> that's right. google now the subject of investigations in both the u.s. and europe. we talked about the security problems a while back. "the wall street journal" reports that regulators are making the move after google was discovered bypassing the privacy settings of millions of users on apple safari web browser. google stopped the practice last month after being contacted by the journal for the story reporting that the search giant was using special computer code to install tiny tracking on people's ipads, even if the device was set to block this type of tracking. the paper said these investigations could last for years and result in hefty fines. google says it's cooperating. people in hong kong already got their new ipads and here in the u.s. doors to the apple

stores will open around 8:00 a.m. around the country. the new tablet comes with a faster processor, sharper screen. the price starts at $499. some customers of course were able to preorder for first day home delivery. joining the customers outside apple stores are protesters. they're trying to pressure the tech company into insisting on better labor conditions at manufacturing companies it uses in china. reports of worker suicides and dangerous working conditions have touched off a global movement that was started by a local guy mark shields along with change.org. locally protests are expected at the apple store in georgetown. so it will be quite a scene down there later today. >> listening to the stories ever workers who -- of workers who spoke off camera, it's incredible what goes on inside some of those factories. >> absolutely. it's a tough situation. our time is 6:37. the big marathon is tomorrow. >> but tonight a one-mile run to cap off the kids rock event. in nine minutes, we're going to

good morning. welcome back to 9news now. it's 6:42. our friday morning edition checking your time saver traffic. travel east on 66 you've already seen delays in volume heading through manassas to centreville. there's an accident on the ramp from 29 to go east on 66 in centreville. close toward the beltway in vienna, vdot was checking for a crash. the accident reported in the right lane right before you reach the beltway. those are your early morning obstacles. 95, 395 corridor you've been slow out of woodbridge getting into springfield. 395 with the volume merging as you head up past edsall and duke street to get up toward seminary road with the low merge there. the pace is good beyond that

into shirlington. maryland drivers outer loop of the beltway has been slowest west of new hampshire avenue. the delays will take you off and on from university past colesville around to georgia avenue. cleaning up the crash northbound 4 and waysons corner. that was off on the shoulder at last report from callers. the next time saver traffic at 6:58. back to you. >> beverly, thank you. howard is here and all important weekend forecast ahead. >> it's not going to be too bad this weekend. we're not going to be in the 80s. sunday looks a little cool, in the 60s but average highs are still about 56. i don't want to hear it. it's pretty good out there. this morning you definitely need a jacket. after being in the 80s yesterday, the 40s and 50s, upper 40s and low 50s we have now feels sharply colder and then average lows in the 30s still. 37 is where we should be. it's the second warmest on record. a very warm start to the month.

here's a look at our bus stop forecast. temperatures this morning are mainly in the 50s. all scoff spots right now dipped -- a couple of spots right now dipped into the 40s. it's cloudy and damp. some showers north and west of town. the sunrise sets at 7:17 and sets at 7:17 as well. i think we'll have a decent amount of cloud cover. by noon we'll shoot into the upper 60s as the winds turn back toward the southwest. the front expected to lift north later this morning. that will help push temps into the middle 70s. while we'll have a couple of showers, most of the threat for a little bit of thunder here and there. nothing severe but when we get back to the 70s and with that front around, it certainly will be a possibility, even through 8:00 tonight with temperatures still about 70, 71. a line of showers coming through. heavier stuff north and west, pennsylvania back through ohio and kentucky and west virginia. but up here you'll notice this coming through parts of northern maryland, the shenandoah valley. this line of showers is breaking up and weakening a

little bit of the here's live doppler 9000 hd. just west of frederick as you're going toward myersville seeing some showers. also back toward brunswick. as you head down toward berryville, looking at a few showers trying to get into fauquier, rapahannock, clark, warren counties. a couple of light showers there. that's about it. here's a look at visibilities. fog has been a bit of a problem, especially south and east of town. lots of low clouds in d.c. we have some visibilities at almost a mile or less in spots of southern maryland, even up to baltimore visibility at a mile and a half. no dense fog but just enough to maybe put a little mist on the windshield. with 48 right now in gaithersburg. here's the warm stuff in richmond at 59. pax river naval air station 52. and same in winchester and also at reagan national. look outside on our michael & son weather camera, you can see the low clouds around the capitol, 52 degrees. feeling cooler than that with a northeast wind at 7 miles an hour. the clusters of showers and storms are just scattered about. so from time to time today, that's what we're going to see.

and moving. it's such a problem with obesity. i see it every day as a doctor. to have the ing and rock 'n' roll partner and have these kids races leading up to the big rock 'n' roll marathon rng it's so much fun. we're going to have about a thousand kids at the armory lot 6 today. you can still sign up if you come down to the expo you can get a nice t-shirt and the kids will get a medal when they finish. what it does for their confidence doing that race, it's just unbelievable. often it gets their parents involved in running as well. >> you had a t-shirt that we'd like to have you hold up again because we were looking at something else. that's the t-shirt and you say kids can still come and sign up today? >> they can still come and sign up today. come down to the expo here at the armory. right when you walk in, you'll come and see this booth and you can sign up. you also have the opportunity to support the orange laces
